Las Vegas (Day 4)
We decided to do our running around early in the day because they are going to start blocking off streets around Las Vegas Blvd this afternoon. Had breakfast at the Cracked Egg (one of our favorite breakfast spots in the country). Filled up with gas at the downtown Costco because a lot of the stations will be closed on New Year's Day. Usually a full tank here will get us to Fernley (last cheap gas before we hit Reno). Hopefully, people will sleep in tomorrow and we won't have any traffic to contend with (hey, I can dream, can't I).
Fun people watching in the casino. People are starting to celebrate early and their various dress codes are interesting to say the least. I would love to take pictures of some of them, but I think they might take it the wrong way :-). Lunch was a frozen yogurt down near the Bally's Sports Book and then we had a great dinner at the Steak. Sat at our favorite location (the bar) and enjoyed conversation with the bartenders while watching the football games. Even in the upscale Steak, the bar had TV's tuned into the bowl games.
Came back up to the room to watch the ball drop in New York City. It was warmer in NYC than here in Las Vegas, but it was pouring down rain! But the performers did a great job even soaking wet. Don't know whether Danny was at Times Square - hope he had sense enough to stay out of the rain.
We're on the twentieth floor of Bally's looking north toward the High Roller - pretty at night with all the lights on. Hopefully, we're be able to see some of the fireworks from here. Looking down at Flamingo (which is now closed), it looks like lemmings rushing to the sea. With the street closed and everyone heading to Las Vegas Blvd, they are all going in the same direction. It's interesting watching the parking lots across the street - all the latecomers are driving up and down the lanes looking for that elusive parking spot. Too bad, from our vantage point, we can tell they are all gone!
Next up is New Year's Eve in Denver and then we get to celebrate our NYE!
